00:01 I'm going to show you how to create
an asymmetrical effect
00:05 on a mountain,
and then use that for texturing purposes.
00:08 So we will start off
by creating a Ridge node.
00:13 And let's play with the Seed
00:16 a little bit
so we can get a very clear mountain range.
00:21 There it is. And that looks pretty cool.
00:23 And I'm going to increase the Height
so that we get,
00:27 a bit more area down here to play with.
00:30 Now, on top of this,
I'm going to apply Erosion
00:34 then increase the Duration and the Coarse
Sediments so we can get these nice flows.
00:40 I think I'm going to increase
the Sediments even more
00:43 just to make these flows stronger.
00:45 And I'm going to reduce the Coarse Angle
00:48 just so it brings down these sediments
even further.
00:52 So that's looking good.
00:55 Now what I want to do is I want to leave
00:57 this side of the ridge alone, but
I want to create some effect on this side.
01:02 So what I'll do
is I'll first create a Stratify node
01:08 which is creating this effect.
01:11 And then next, I don't think
01:14 I'm going to change this to much,
at least not yet.
01:17 But what I want to do is apply it
just to that one specific area.
01:22 And so for that,
01:24 let me go down here to the Modifiers
01:27 for the Stratify node
and add Mask by Height.
01:31 This is now creating an instant height
mask for this effect.
01:36 And so let me bring that down lower
01:39 and lower still I'm
01:41 going to reduce the Falloff
but increase the Distortion.
01:45 So the edges are a little bit distorted.
01:48 And so here you can see
there's not much going on
01:51 on the back
or up here on the main ridgeline.
01:54 But down here
we have this, stratified look.
02:00 So the next thing I want to do
02:03 is, change the stratification
a little bit.
02:07 So right now we have a very high Spacing.
02:09 I want to reduce that
02:11 just so we can get more detail out here.
02:15 And I'm going to leave the Falloff
to be very low
02:18 because I don't want like smooth blending.
02:20 I like how this is, looking,
02:23 like it's, you know,
jutting out from the main landscape.
02:27 So let's say this is pretty much
what we want for our terrain.
02:31 So now I want to texture this.
02:33 And so to do that
first I'm going to create a TextureBase.
02:39 And I'm going to have very high Slope
02:43 and a little higher value for Soil.
02:46 And then to that I add, a SatMap.
02:50 And so
02:51 I want to create two different,
color maps, one that's going to be
02:56 for all of the terrain, and then one
that's just for the exposed strata.
03:01 So to do that, first
let me create something that looks nice.
03:06 That's simple enough.
03:08 And let me make another one.
03:11 And this one will make it
slightly different
03:14 so that it shows
that we have that, exposed strata
03:18 which should look like there's
some minerals or whatnot coming out.
03:22 So I want to find a color map
that can do it justice.
03:27 Maybe something like this,
03:28 because it will go hand in hand with this
and then we can adjust it later.
03:32 So first thing I want to do,
I want to select both of these
03:36 right click and Combine
into Mixer as Color Layers.
03:41 So I now have these two colored layers.
03:44 Now this one is being distributed
by height.
03:46 But I just want it very specifically
to go where this effect is.
03:50 And so to do that
I'm going to create a DataExtractor node.
03:54 The DataExtractor node
will then plug into Stratify.
03:59 And since it's set to Modifier
04:01 mask by default,
it will look at where that effect
04:05 is being applied
and extract that exact mask.
04:09 So we now have this ready
04:11 which I can
then plug into mask one for layer one.
04:16 And then go to layer one.
04:18 And instead of Height
I will switch it to Custom.
04:22 So here you can see
it's being applied right here.
04:26 What I'll do is I will right click
and Lock Preview to the Mixer output.
04:31 Go to this other SatMap
and maybe change it a little bit.
04:36 Play around with it.
04:40 Oh. Maybe that's too much.
04:42 I can also Equalize to get more,
04:46 mileage out of that masked area.
04:49 This is looking good.
04:51 And do not cement this look
because it still looks like it's separate.
04:55 I'm going to unlock the Preview from here.
04:59 I'm going to create ColorErosion
05:02 and ColorErosion.
05:03 The Height will go
all the way back to our strata
05:07 because it needs a Height input.
05:09 And so here I'll increase
the Sediment Density a little bit.
05:12 Reduce the Color Hold,
but increase the Flow Volume
05:18 maybe a little bit
more Blend and Transport Distance.
05:22 And you can see it's starting to seep in.
05:24 I think maybe what I would like to have
is a bit more texture
05:28 on the rest of
the terrain. So go back here,
05:33 and maybe Equalize this one as well,
05:36 and then use the Bias
to bring in some color way up here.
05:41 Going back.
05:41 That's our Mixer.
05:42 You can see this fits more nicely.
05:45 And then now when we blend them
they blend together well.
05:49 So this is a great example
of how you can quickly create,
05:52 masked area effects
and use them however you like.
